10 facts about the Global Biofuels Alliance

1. The Global Biofuels Alliance (GBA) is an India-led initiative to form an alliance of governments, international organizations and industry to facilitate the introduction of biofuels.
2. 19 countries, including seven G20 states – India, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Italy, South Africa and the USA – and 12 international organizations have already agreed to join the JCC.
3. The GBA brings together the largest consumers and producers of biofuels to promote the development and use of biofuels. The aim of the GBA is to position biofuels as the key to the energy transition and to contribute to jobs and economic growth.
4. GBA will support the global development and deployment of sustainable biofuels by providing capacity building exercises along the entire value chain, offering technical support to national programs and promoting policy knowledge sharing.
5. The Global Biofuels Alliance will facilitate the mobilization of a virtual marketplace to help industries, countries, ecosystem participants and key stakeholders map demand and supply and connect technology providers with end users.
6. The Alliance will also facilitate the development, adoption and implementation of internationally recognized standards, codes, sustainability principles and regulations to incentivize the uptake and trade of biofuels.
7. The GBA will also help strengthen India’s position globally as the alliance will focus on collaboration and provide additional opportunities to Indian industry in the form of export of technology and equipment.
8. This new initiative will help accelerate India’s existing biofuel programs such as the PM-JIVANYojna, SATAT and GOBARdhan programs, thereby contributing to increased farmer income, employment generation and overall development of the Indian ecosystem.
9. Bangladesh, Singapore, Mauritius, the United Arab Emirates, Iceland, Kenya, Guyana, Paraguay, the Seychelles, Sri Lanka, Uganda and Finland have also agreed to be founding members of the GBA.
10. International organizations such as the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the World Economic Forum, the World LPG Organization, UN Energy for All, UNIDO, the Biofutures Platform, the International Civil Aviation Organization, the International Energy Agency, the International Energy Forum, the International Renewable Energy Agency and the World Biogas Association will also be part of the Global Biofuels Alliance.
