DHL use SAF for transport from Berlin to Shanghai

Formula E and DHL have transported team and equipment from Berlin to Shanghai using DHL’s GoGreen Plus service, utilising Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) for air freight between the two cities. Around 257 tonnes of cargo were transported between the two cities using SAF, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 80% compared to paraffin aviation fuel. In addition, Embraer has announced an agreement with Avfuel to increase the use of Neste MY SAF at Melbourne Orlando International Airport to one load per week. The European Union (EU) has committed to ambitious carbon reduction targets centred on the blending of E10 in its member states. The U.S. Grains Council (USGC) recently sent a delegation to the region to build relationships with industry stakeholders and policy makers to further support the EU’s climate initiatives. Exolum will build a new terminal in Spain for the storage of biofuels and other bulk liquids in the port of Bilbao on land adjacent to its facility in Zierbena. The first phase of the project, with a planned investment of 20 million euros, will begin in 2025 and is expected to be operational in 2027. Pro Farmer reports that both Germany and France on calling on the European Commission to stop imports of used cooking oil-based biodiesel from China due to the potential that they could be fraudulent. Everfuel has opened a hydrogen refuelling station at the bus depot of the Frankfurt bus company In-der-City-Bus (ICB) in Germany. The refuelling station is owned by the bus company ICB and will supply 23 zero-emission fuel cell buses used in daily urban and municipal transport, the company announced. Everfuel developed and built the refuelling station and will supply ICB with hydrogen under a three-year contract. NYK Bulkship (Asia) Ltd (“NBAsia”) has commenced its first shipment of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The SAF left Singapore on a product tanker and will be offloaded at the ports of Los Angeles and San Francisco and delivered to airports in the region.On previous voyages, NBAsia has transported Neste’s refined diesel fuel, which is used to power construction equipment and cars. Corn-based ethanol is unlikely to be included in the US SAF market. According to rules recently published by the US Treasury Department, ETJ is unlikely to qualify as a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Vietnam Airlines has operated its first flight with Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel. An Airbus A321 was refuelled with a blend of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at Changi Airport in Singapore and flew back to Hanoi, Vietnam on 27 May 2024. The German government has authorised the unrestricted sale of diesel fuels in accordance with the DIN EN 15940 fuel standard in Germany. The sale of unblended diesel produced from 100% renewable raw materials (HVO100) was previously only permitted in certain segments, such as local public transport. The authorisation that has now come into force allows the sale and use of HVO100 diesel in all segments in Germany. The British Post Office has reached the first milestone in the introduction of hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO) as a fuel for its lorry fleet. It consumes over 10 million litres and saves over 30,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent.
