Ecology meets economy
Green electricity refers to electrical energy that is generated from renewable energy sources such as biogas.
At BIOTECH ENERGY, the primary energy is obtained from the company’s own biogas plant, which produces biomethane after a desulphurization process. This biomethane drives a gas or steam turbine via combined heat and power generation. The size of the system depends on the steam requirement for the distillation process.
Sustainable energy generation from biogas offers several advantages. Firstly, biogas is a renewable energy source, as the organic raw materials are constantly available. Secondly, it helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, as methane, a potent greenhouse gas, is captured and utilized during biogas production. Thirdly, it promotes energy independence and local energy production.
In addition, biogas production contributes to waste reduction by reusing organic waste. It can also make agriculture more sustainable, as the fermentation residues can be used as an environmentally friendly fertilizer.
Sustainable energy generation from biogas is an environmentally friendly and renewable energy source that is produced from organic materials. It is based on the process of biogas production, in which microorganisms break down organic substances and produce methane (CH4) in the process.
The raw materials for biogas production come from various organic sources such as animal excrement, agricultural residues, food waste, plant residues and sewage sludge. These materials are rich in organic compounds and serve as source material for biogas production.
The biogas production process takes place in a plant known as a biogas reactor or fermenter. The organic materials are fed into the digester, where microorganisms, mainly methane bacteria, break down the organic substances. During this anaerobic fermentation, methane is produced as the main component of biogas.
The biogas produced consists mainly of methane (typically 50-70%), carbon dioxide (CO2, typically 30-50%) and other trace gases such as hydrogen, hydrogen sulphide and nitrogen.
The raw biogas obtained is processed to remove impurities such as hydrogen sulphide and to increase the methane concentration. This results in a high-quality biogas product that is suitable for energy use.
The processed biogas can be used to generate energy in various applications. It can be burned in gas or combined heat and power plants to generate both heat and electrical energy. Alternatively, the biogas can be used as a fuel in vehicles by compressing it (CNG) or liquefying it (LNG).
After biogas production, residues remain, which are referred to as fermentation residues or fermentation residues. These are rich in nutrients and can be used as fertilizer in agriculture, which helps to close nutrient cycles and improve soil quality.
Green power for everyone
The primary energy for the conversion plant is obtained from the company’s own biogas plant. After a desulphurization process, it is used as biomethane to drive a gas or steam turbine by means of combined heat and power generation.
Thirty percent (30%) of the energy generated in this way is sufficient to supply the entire system with electricity. The remaining electrical energy is fed into the public grid as green electricity.
BIOTECH ENERGY provides a technology that addresses the global challenges of environmental protection, climate protection and food security in one. The biotech company extracts renewable energy from biotechnological processes, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions. At the same time, it promotes sustainable food production and processing in order to meet the global demand for food.
